EB - 0008 late twenties
Epiphone Recording "B" Tenor Banjo EXC but
needing a wee bit of attention so bargain priced.
This is one of the fancier Style B's I've seen with gold plated
hardware and the patented Epiphone
tone ring which is very effective. This banjo plays great and is
loud and clear and rich. Even with the wacky bridge that
is currently on it. The
pearloid resonator has one place on the inner section that is just
starting to lift up a bit next
to the inner circle of marquetry and should be glued back down. The
neck appears to be walnut and a 5 piece lamination. The heel has been repaired and has a
crack that should be glued but is not affecting the playability at all.
The rim which is supposed to
be walnut looks a lot like rosewood. The inside of the resonator looks
like walnut. It uses a single
rod and a gold bracket tightening nut for snugging and adjusting the neck
and it currently has a shim
between the neck and rim which keeps it playing clean and clear. But
again this could be done more professionally and the little missing
piece of binding on the fingerboard replaced properly as well. The fingerboard has lovely engraved
inlays but they need to be re-inked so that the engraving stands out as
it should. Good old Gold Grover
original tuning pegs and the gorgeous inlay on the headstock. The label on the back of the
headstock is in beautiful condition. The arm rest is present in the case
pocket but needs to be soldered back onto one of its support brackets.
The hard shell case is a wonderful
leatherette purple plush one from the forties or fifties.
